This project grew from a simple request “we want to show 2000+ employees what the newest remodel’s look like without sending them to a remodeled property”. With some wonderful equipment at our disposal, a few test were done. After I had the camera height to shoot from, and some settings to guide the capture I was ready to go! With a great team help I was able to capture an entire floor pad for playback in VR through an Oculus Vive headset.
The initial capture was done in a 4 hour window overnight during off hours. 47,000 images were captures, then stitched and straightened. Once stitched images were then color corrected, patched, and retouched. Retouched final 130mp images were then loaded into Unity for setup in VR.
Final delivery for the event was completed with 2 Vive headsets, with large tv’s for spectators to view. To avoid a timed linear experience, hand controls were used to navigate to various sections in the store. This allowed users to jump into the “store” and quickly navigate to the areas they were interested in.
After the event was complete, I the entire experience was still valuable, to continue leveraging the images I created a similar experience (available here) for online viewing.
